Another Dublin Motor Showroom Making Way For Apartment Blocks

Another South Dublin dealership showroom and garage is making way for a block of apartments for €7 million.

A feasibility study has revealed that the site on which the showroom is now located could accommodate 67 apartments in an upmarket apartment development in the south Dublin suburb of Milltown.

The site is being sold through agents Finnegan Menton and GVA Donal Ó Buachalla and they see a guide price of €7m for the one-acre site.

At the moment the land is occupied by the well known BMW dealership Murphy & Gunn. Tis site, as well as part of the Jesuit Order’s grounds now used as a car park, will account for a full one-acre site.

It is proposed that the site, adjoining housing schemes, Mount St Anne’s and Glenmalure Park will have 67 one and two-bedroom apartments in three blocks of three, four or five storeys high.

The new proposed development of the present dealership site will be within easy walking distance of Ranelagh and the Milltown Luas stop.

According to Nicholas Corson of Finnegan Menton, it is likely to appeal both to developers planning to cash in on the strong selling prices and others wishing to avail of the buoyant long-term rental market.

The Murphy & Gunn garage was rebuilt in 2007 and includes a showroom that can accommodate 10 cars, a six-bay workshop, two-storey offices and a parts division extending to 1,465sq m (15,770sq ft).

His particular dealership will continue to trade as a Hyundai dealer from its Rathgar Avenue showrooms. The sale of the Milltown premises will see a closure on the BMW franchise agreement for this site of almost 50 years.
