Toyota Recalls Over 40,000 Cars In Ireland Due to a Number of Potential Defects

Toyota has recalled a huge number of Toyota vehicles of all makes and models due to a number of defects.

The manufacturer has already issued thousands of recall notices to drivers across Ireland due to a number of potential problems.

All Avensis, Verso, Corollas manufactured between 2002 and 2007 are subject to a voluntary recall due to a fault with the airbag control module. Nearly 30,000 vehicles are affected here in Ireland.

Over 2,000 Toyota Aygos made between July 2005 and December 2013 are also subject to a voluntary recall, due to the “possibility that the glue holding the glass on the rear door could detach. If this were to happen, the glass will only remain attached by one fixation point. Noise, vibration or water entry could be noticed by customer”.

Another 6,500 cars have also been recalled. These models include the Toyota  Avensis, Corolla, Avensis Verso, Yaris and the SC430 manufactured between February 2001 and April 2006. According to the recall notice, the front passenger airbag inflators could rupture at high temperatures. This can “cause metal fragments to pass through the airbag and into the vehicle interior at high speed, which may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants”.

Toyota Ireland will be sending letters with recall notices to all those affected by the voluntary recalls, after which, all issues will be fixed free of charge.

It is not the first time this year that Toyota has issued a recall of its vehicles. Just last month, Toyota recalled over 2.4 million hybrid vehicles across the world amid concerns about a fault that could cause crashes. In total 1,289 of the Japanese manufacturer's hybrid vehicles in Ireland were affected. That issue affects Toyota Prius, Prius+ and Auris models and involves the failsafe driving mode.
