Why are most of the characters on the VIN/Chassis Number hashed out on the MyVehicle Car History Check?

A Vehicle Identification number (VIN) also known in Ireland as Chassis number, is a unique code, including a serial number to identify individual vehicles. The numbers are partially shown for security reasons as they are unique to the vehicle. The characters shown allow for a quick check against the vehicle and VRC for verification purposes.
