A 13-year-old child was mugged at knifepoint last week on the Green Luas Line.

In this extremely shocking incident, a 13-year-old girl was held up by two people, a female and a male in their early twenties.

It was reported that the young girl was on her way home with her friends on the Luas tram after an outing in the Dundrum Town Centre shopping mall.

While on the tram, the girl was approached by a man and a woman who subjected her to a barrage of verbal abuse and threatening to stab her.

The woman pulled out a flick-knife on the young girl and forced her at knife-point to hand over her phone.

The girl was terrified by these two vicious perpetrators and she is extremely shaken and traumatised by the incident.

Gardai are investigating the incident and describe the attackers as a female in her 20s with long black hair and wearing a black skirt and black boots, and a male, also in his 20s, with short brown hair and wearing grey and navy tracksuit bottoms and runners.

This highlights the importance of extreme vigilance with regard to child safety when allowing them to travel on public transport, especially when they are not with an adult.
